India stands with Palestine: Promises humanitarian aid and calls for peace in Israel-Hamas conflict

India's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador R. Ravindra, spoke about India's deep concerns regarding the worsening security situation and civilian casualties in the Israel-Hamas war.

India expressed deep concerns over the Israel-Hamas war during a UN Security Council meeting on October 25. They also vowed continued support for the people of Palestine. This was the first open debate at the UNSC regarding the Israel-Hamas war, and most members urged an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian aid for Palestinians.

The UN Security Council, with 15 members, had not reached a resolution while the war continued, raising concerns about further escalation.

India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador R. Ravindra, spoke about India’s deep concerns regarding the worsening security situation and civilian casualties in the Israel-Hamas war. India pledged to provide humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people and emphasized the importance of creating conditions for peace talks.

Ambassador R. Ravindra expressed, “India has sent 38 tons of humanitarian goods, including medicines and equipment, to the people of Palestine. India has always negotiated a two-state solution to the Palestine issue, leading to the establishment of a sovereign, independent, and viable state of Palestine, living within secure and recognized borders, side by side in peace with Israel, taking into account the legitimate security concerns of … We also continue to support the Palestinian people through our bilateral development partnership, which covers a wide range of sectors including health, education, women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, and information technology.”

India explicitly condemned the October 7 Hamas attack. The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, had conveyed condolences and prayers for the victims and their families. India expressed solidarity with Israel during this crisis.

After the Hamas attack and the subsequent war, many Palestinians were suffering, leading India to offer aid. India sent 38 tons of humanitarian supplies, including medicines and equipment, to help the Palestinian people. India has a longstanding stance in support of a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine, leading to the establishment of a sovereign and viable Palestinian state living peacefully alongside Israel.

Ambassador R. Ravindra reaffirmed India’s commitment to a just, peaceful, and lasting resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. India’s support for the Palestinian people goes beyond humanitarian aid, extending to various sectors like health, education, women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, and information technology.
