Electric water taxis connect Gateway of India to Navi Mumbai’s Belapur

Two 24-seater electric water taxis are being tested in Goa, capable of covering up to 12 nautical miles in an hour. Managed by Infinity Harbour Service, these taxis will operate on the Belapur-Gateway of India route. The electric water taxis can run for up to four hours on a single charge, offering a more eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to diesel water taxis.

According to media sources, travelers would find it easier to go between the Gateway of India and Navi Mumnai’s Belapur now that electric water taxi services are scheduled to be implemented starting next month, or in December 2024.

According to the report, two 24-seater taxis that will be utilized for the trip between Belapur and the Gateway of India are now being tested in Goa. In an hour, these electric water taxis may go up to 12 nautical miles at a time, which is the distance between both locations.

As stated by many media sites, Sohel Kazani, Managing Partner of Infinity Harbour Service, is the person who would primarily oversee the 24-seater water taxi on the route that links Belapur and Gateway of India. There are two more 6-seater taxis in Kochi that are presently going through testing. Additional advantages of these electric water taxis are highlighted in a media report, which notes that they can operate for up to four hours on a single charge, in contrast to the present diesel water taxis, which need 140 liters of fuel each hour.

This route will be serviced by Infinity Harbour Service, a private water taxi operator. They paid around ₹2.5 crore for each of the four vessels they bought.

Presently, the firm provides to-and-from services between a number of routes that connect: Mandwa to the Gateway of India; Belapur to JNPT; JNPT to Elephanta; Nerul to Elephanta; JNPT to Nerul; Belapur to Harbour Cruise; Belapur to Elephanta Caves; and Belapur to Nerul.

Water transport services from Belapur to the Gateway of India were launched earlier this year. Nayantara Shipping Pvt Ltd was officially opened by State Port Minister Dada Bhuse. Up to 200 persons can be transported by the water transport service, which operates five days a week. South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai will be connected by an air-conditioned water taxi service provided by Nayantara Shipping Pvt Ltd. The minister was reported by news agency ANI as saying, “Now the passengers will save time and money with the Belapur-Gateway of India water taxi.”
