Sleeper bus in Gurugram catches fire, 2 dead and 12 injured

The incident happened at approximately 8:30 p.m. on the main road connecting Delhi and Jaipur, Rajasthan, close to the Jharsa overpass.

On the Jaipur-Delhi-Gurugram Expressway on Wednesday night, a moving sleeper bus caught fire, killing two people and seriously injuring twelve more, according to a senior police official. The fire completely destroyed the bus. At first, the cause of the fire remained unknown.

According to the official, seven of the injured have been admitted to Civil Hospital in Gurugram and five to Medanta Hospital. According to Gulshan Kalra, Deputy Director of the Fire Department, the incident happened at approximately 8:30 p.m. on the main road connecting Delhi and Jaipur, Rajasthan, close to the Jharsa overpass.

“Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot after we received information that a sleeper bus with registration number AR 01 K 7707 had caught fire on the carriageway,” said Kalra. Two of the passengers had died from burns by the time the fire was put out.

According to Kalra, a few other passengers suffered burn injuries. Seven injured people are receiving care at the Civil Hospital, according to Dr. Manav. “All injured have suffered 30 to 50 per cent burns but are stable,” Manav said.

Both Gurugram Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar Arora and Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav arrived to the scene after learning about the occurrence. The bus was completely enveloped in flames in the scene’s video.The fire was so bad that, throughout the night, one could see a column of smoke rising into the sky from a distance. “Three fire engines were rushed to the spot from the Sector-29 fire station after we received information that a sleeper bus with registration number AR 01 K 7707 had caught fire on the carriageway,” Fire Department Deputy Director Gulshan Kalra said.

A senior police official stated, “We are looking into the matter; if any negligence is discovered, legal action will be taken.”

It is yet unknown what started the fire. People have been known to travel in huge numbers by bus during the festival season. Many customers use buses to help them travel and get home if they are unable to grab tickets for train services.
