Father of the accused in Mahadev app fraud discovered dead in Chhattisgarh

The deceased was the father of Asim Das, the suspected cash courier arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the case.

A senior police officer said on Tuesday that the father of a guy listed as an offender in the Mahadev betting app scam was discovered dead under strange circumstances in a village in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district.

The corpse of Sushil Das (62), who had been missing for two days, was discovered in a well in Achhoti village within the Anda police station boundaries in the afternoon, and it seems to be a suicide, according to Durg Senior Superintendent of Police Ram Gopal Garg.

The deceased was the father of Asim Das, the suspected cash courier arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the case.

Garg claimed that the elder Das, who worked as a security guard in a private firm, had been missing since Sunday evening.

Promoters paid Rs 508 crore to departing Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel

According to the official, the death appears to be a suicide, although the actual cause of death is still being investigated.

He stated that the corpse had been sent for post-mortem testing and that additional investigation was underway.

The ED detained Asim Das and another accused, policeman Bhim Singh Yadav, on November 3.

According to the ED, forensic research and a statement made by ‘cash courier’ Das led to “startling allegations” that Mahadev betting app entrepreneurs had paid around Rs 508 crore to departing Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel so far, and that “these are the subject of investigation.”

Baghel had vehemently denied the claims, accusing the BJP of exploiting the ED.

The federal agency detained Asim Das in Raipur after claiming to have seized Rs 5.39 crore in cash from him.

According to the ED, he was reportedly sent by app marketers from the UAE “especially to deliver a large amount of cash for electioneering expenses of the ruling Congress Party.”

“Asim Das has admitted that the seized funds were arranged by the Mahadev app promoters to be delivered to one politician ‘Baghel’ for upcoming election expenses in the state of Chhattisgarh,” the agency said in a statement released ahead of the two-phase voting on November 7 and 17.

Das testified before a special PMLA court on November 25 that he had been framed as part of a plot and had never handed payment to politicians.
