Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted an invitation from Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni to attend the G7 Summit Outreach Sessions in Puglia, Italy, in June.

This invitation was received during a phone chat on the 79th anniversary of Liberation Day. During the call, the Prime Minister extended greetings to Meloni as well as the Italian people. He also thanked Meloni for the G7 invitation.

“Spoke with PM @GiorgiaMeloni and extended greetings as Italy celebrates its Liberation day today. Thanked her for the invite to the G7 Summit in June. Discussed taking forward #G20India outcomes at the G7.

Reaffirmed commitment to deepening our Strategic Partnership,” PM Modi wrote on X.

The leaders discussed how to build on the substantial achievements made under India’s G20 Presidency, particularly in terms of assisting the Global South, at the upcoming G7 Summit under Italy’s presidency. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral strategic cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual importance.

An Italian readout said, “The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had two telephone conversations today with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom respectively.” “In addition to bilateral relations and international current affairs with the latest developments in Ukraine and the Middle East, the calls focused on the priority areas of action of the Italian Presidency of the G7: migration, artificial intelligence, food security and Italy’s initiatives in partnership with African nations,” it added.
