Child Rights body seeks action against UP teacher after viral ‘slap’ video

A video shows a teacher at Neha Public School in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, reportedly encouraging Hindu students to slap a Muslim student. The Muzaffarnagar police have started an investigation.

In a disturbing incident that has stirred up the educational community,  a video has emerged allegedly showing a teacher in Uttar Pradesh encouraging his students to physically assault a Muslim student. The video features a teacher, Tripta Tyagi, seemingly provoking students to perpetrate violence against their Muslim classmate. As students took turns to slap and beat the student, she is heard saying, “Why are you not hitting him harder?” The distraught student can be seen crying uncontrollably throughout the ordeal.

The Muzaffarnagar police have taken swift action, instructing the station in-charge of Mansoorpur to see into this case. The incident took place at Neha Public School located in Khubbapur village of Thanakshetra. “A teacher is encouraging students to beat up a student in the class and making religious remarks,” explained jurisdictional Khatauli Dr. Ravi Shankar, shedding light on the gravity of the case.

Reports suggest that the incident took place in a government school in Muzaffarnagar district, where a teacher allegedly instigated his students to slap their Muslim classmate. This shocking behavior has prompted authorities, including the Muzaffarnagar Police and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), to launch an investigation.

  • The teacher’s alleged encouragement led to the Muslim student being slapped several times by his classmates.
  • The father conveyed his decision to withdraw his child from the school but refrained from filing a police complaint.
  • When asked about his reluctance to involve the police, he explained, “I didn’t want to file a police complaint because I don’t want to be called by Police or by court every now and then, I don’t want to get into all these.” 
  • The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also taken cognisance of the incident. They are seeking action and have urged the public not to share the video further.
  • Instructions are being issued for action, everyone is requested not to share the video of the child. Instead, please report such incidents by email. Let’s not become part of the crime by revealing the identity of the children,” advised Priyank Kanoongo, Chairman of NCPCR.
