Temple City Tirupati to roll out first-ever electric double-decker bus

The temple city will be the second city in the entire south after Hyderabad to deploy double-decker buses for public transportation.

Tirupati will soon have its own fleet of double-decker buses, making it the first in Andhra Pradesh. To improve the efficiency of the city’s public transport system, the Tirupati Municipal Corporation (TMC) is getting ready to roll out a number of electric-powered double-decker buses.

As a result, the temple city will be the second city in the entire south after Hyderabad to deploy double-decker buses for public transportation. According to TOI, TMC recently helped the city’s infrastructure by figuring out 20 master-plan roadways in a surprisingly short amount of time.

The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, recently opened Srinivasa Sethu, a 550 crore rupee elevated expressway. The expressway was constructed by the Tirupati Smart City Corporation Limited, which is supported by the TMC.

Tirupati the first city in Andhra Pradesh to introduce such buses for public transport

In an endeavour to create a first-rate public transportation system, the TMC is concentrated on offering hassle-free transportation for both citizens and devotees to all areas of the city. “By launching double-decker buses in the city, TMC takes pride in making Tirupati the first city in Andhra Pradesh to introduce such buses for public transport, which is affordable to all,” Bhumana Abhinay Reddy, Deputy Mayor, stated.

Features, budget and route

An air-conditioned electric double-decker bus is about to become Tirupati’s first piece of public transportation. This is a big step in the direction of sustainable urban mobility.

By the end of October, the electric double-decker bus is expected to start operating in the city. There are intentions to increase the size of the fleet after successful test runs.

The electric double-decker bus, which costs Rs 2 crore, landed in Tirupati last month and is currently undergoing testing. The Tirupati Smart City Corporation Ltd, a part of the federal government’s Smart City project, oversaw the municipal corporation’s acquisition of the electric bus. The electric commercial vehicle division of Ashok Leyland, Switch Mobility, sold this bus to the buyer.

The bus will connect key tourist attractions like temples and restaurants along four routes that run the length of the city. By the end of October, the services are anticipated to start up after the conclusion of Navaratri Brahmotsavam in Tirumala.
