The esteemed Mahakaleshwar Temple situated in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, has recently been graced by visits from renowned figures across entertainment, sports, and politics. Now, the temple is set to make its revered Bhasma Aarti ritual more accessible by eliminating the associated entry fee on every Tuesday.

Bhasma Aarti – Now Freely Accessible on Tuesdays

A significant decision in the history of the temple was unveiled at a recent board meeting held by the Mahakal Temple Management Committee. The group shared that the Bhasma Aarti, a tradition associated with the temple, will now be freely accessible to devotees every Tuesday. This proposition seeks to make the sacred experience smoother and more inclusive for everyone looking to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva.

In a conversation with the media officials, Ujjain Mayor Mukesh Tatwal expressed that visitors at the temple on Tuesdays during the Bhasma Aarti will not be required to pay the entry fee. This initiative is primarily targeted at benefiting the residents of Ujjain.

Previous Process and Changes

Previously devotees incurred a fee of Rs 200 per person to take part in the revered Bhasma Aarti. This payment was seen as permission to participate in the holy ritual. However, the recently implemented changes seek to make this experience more inclusive.

In the month of Shravan, the Temple Committee allowed free access through the Avantika Dwar specifically for Ujjain residents. Now, in the Bhasma Aarti, which can accommodate approximately 1,500 devotees, around 400 local inhabitants can get the benefit.

Strict Implementation of the New Dress Code

Attendees of the Bhasma Aarti will have to adhere to a dress code. Ladies are expected to wear sarees, while men are to wear dhoti-kurtas. The Temple authorities will not permit entry to those not compliant with the dress code. Girls up to 10 years of age can enter wearing salwar suits.

As stated by Collector Kumar Purshottam, this rule applies to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and is compulsory for all, including VIP devotees. Western clothing such as jeans, shirts, jackets or other such apparel are strictly forbidden.

Devotees planning their visit are reminded to bring their Aadhar cards for registration and address verification. This move by the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain symbolizes a step towards inclusion and simplicity in holy observances.
