India contributes $1 million to promote Hindi language at the United Nations and enhance global outreach

India's Ambassador to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj, announced that a voluntary contribution of $1 million has been made by India to UN with the objective of supporting and promoting usage of Hindi language within the organization.

India has made a voluntary contribution of $1 million to the United Nations to promote the use of the Hindi language within the organization and foster inclusive dialogue and understanding, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj said.

“Efforts of the United Nations to mainstream and consolidate news and multimedia content in the Hindi language have been appreciated in India and in countries where a Hindi-speaking population resides,” Kamboj said.

In accordance with a press release from the Permanent Mission of India, money has been provided to the United Nations with the intention of facilitating the broader adoption and utilization of the Hindi language within the organization.

The Hindi@UN initiative was launched in collaboration with the UN Department of Public Information in 2018. Its primary goal is to enhance public outreach of the United Nations in Hindi and raise awareness about global issues among millions of Hindi-speaking individuals worldwide.

To achieve this objective, UN News in Hindi is disseminated through multiple platforms, including UN News, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and a weekly UN News-Hindi audio bulletin.

The UN Hindi social media accounts currently have 50,000 followers on Twitter, 29,000 on Instagram, and 15,000 on Facebook. These accounts publish nearly 1,000 posts annually. Additionally, the Hindi UN News website, which receives around 1.3 million impressions each year, ranks among the top ten search results on internet search engines.
