India becomes indispensable to US effort to assert itself in Asia, deter China aggression: Report

The US looks to instill a closer relationship with India, a rising economy, to deter the Chinese.

India is beginning to be a crucial part of the efforts of the US to assert itself in the Asian continent, according to reports by The Economist. With an economy ever-growing to its full potential, India looks to be the key for the US to put off Chinese aggression.

India, being one of the fastest growing economies, is expected to overtake Germany’s and Japan’s GDP by 2028 as it treads on an uplifting path under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The report highlighted that under PM Modi, infrastructure and manufacturing have grown exponentially and have found new levels of growth.

While the partnership between India and US has never been what they would have thought, but the American leaders like to think and anticipate that it will get better and closer relationship can be formed as the time passes, as the US sees India as a key to assert dominance against China.

The recent visit of PM Modi to Washington is also expected to see a few important defence deals being signed between the two nations. He would also be one of the few world leaders after Winston Churchill, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Nelson Mandela to address the US Congress more than once.

Recently, India surpassed UK to establish itself as the world’s fifth-largest economy. According to Goldman Sachs, an American global investment bank and financial services provider India’s GDP would surpass that of the euro area in 2051 and that of the United States by 2075 based on the assumption that the growth rate will be 5.8% during the next five years, 4.6% in the 2030s, and lower thereafter.
