IIT-Madras and IISc secure top spots in NIRF rankings 2023 for educational institutions in India
The NIRF Rankings 2023 were released on Monday and IIT Madras became the top institute this year overall once again.
The Ministry of Education of the Government of India has released the NIRF rankings for the year 2023. IIT Madras has once again got the top spot in these rankings. For the fifth consecutive year (2019 to 2023), the institute maintains its position in the overall category, and for the eighth consecutive year (2016 to 2023), it retains its position in the engineering category.
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has also retained its 2nd position in the overall category like last year. While, IIT Bombay has slipped down in the overall ranking to #4 and is replaced by IIT Delhi at #3
Anil Kumar Nassa, member secretary of NBA (National Board of Accreditation), which oversees the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework), stated that the aim of the NIRF is to enhance the quality of higher education and assist students in making informed decisions. He emphasized that the rankings have expanded from four to twelve categories in the 8th edition, including eight subject-specific rankings.
Nassa highlighted the increasing participation in the rankings, noting that while 3,500 institutes participated in 2016, this year saw a significant rise with 8,686 institutes taking part.
