The rights to crime writer Jupinderjit Singh's best-selling 2023 book, "Who Killed Moosewala?," have been bought by Matchbox Shots. The Climbing Tale of Bloodshed in Punjab The book explores the effects of narcotics and the rise in violence caused by criminals' increasing power in Punjab, one of the northern states of India, as well as the inner workings of the Punjabi music business.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moose Wala, was an Indian rapper, singer, and composer whose work charted on Billboard worldwide. He was a celebrity of Punjabi-language music and film. His work was not without controversy since it addressed difficult, unvarnished subjects and gave many people a voice. He became a member of the Indian National Congress in 2021 and ran an unsuccessful campaign for the Punjab Legislative Assembly in 2022. Unknown individuals fatally shot him on May 29, 2022. He was 28 years old.

The 2018 film “Andhadhun,” which was produced by Matchbox Shots and directed by Sriram Raghavan, brought in around $50 million in China. The business is also responsible for Hansal Mehta’s Busan-winning Netflix series “Scoop” and Vasan Bala’s Netflix feature “Monica O My Darling.”

It is unclear at this time if Matchbox Shots will produce a film or a television series, but the concept is currently being discussed with a number of platforms.

Jupinderjit Singh stated: “Many production firms expressed interest in the novel as soon as it was released. The kind of work that Matchbox Shots is putting out really pleased me, and I’m happy that they’ve acquired the rights to the book so they may expand on it.

“We have always found the macabre relationship between the music industry and gang wars in Punjab extremely intriguing,” Matchbox Shots’ Sarita Patil continued. We are certain that Jupinderjit’s book “Who Killed Moosewala?” provides a solid foundation for our narrative.

Lead designer for the project is Matchbox Shots’ Dikssha Jyote Routray, who described it as a “narrative that demands contemplation and understanding, an intricate interplay of crime, fame, and music in Punjab.”

In 2019, Sidhu Moosewala faced controversy again when a video went viral showing him and some friends firing guns during a celebration. This led to public outcry and legal issues, as it was seen as promoting gun culture, which is a serious concern in some regions of India. Additionally, he has been criticized for some of his lyrics, which some people argue promote violence, substance abuse, and misogyny.

It’s important to note that these controversies might have been resolved or new ones might have emerged since my last update. I recommend checking the latest news sources for the most recent information on Sidhu Moosewala and any controversies he might be involved in.
