“Bulldozer action in Haryana’s Nuh, following riots, carried out on Chief Minister’s orders”

Up to 50 to 60 structures in various locations have been demolished as of now. Consequently, many individuals have fled, apprehensive of potential arrests.

The Haryana government is responding to the Haryana violence by taking action against the perpetrators. The administration moved on with ‘bulldozer action’ and razed down several establishments in Tauru, about 20 km from violence-hit Nuh. Authorities have verified that the residents of these “illegal” establishments were involved in the riots that occurred in the area on July 31.

The Nuh district administration in Haryana continued its action against “illegal” constructions for the third consecutive day, resulting in the demolition of around two dozen medical stores and other shops, which were completely razed to the ground. Throughout the day, bulldozer action persisted at various locations, with district administration teams being present on the scene to oversee the demolitions. Authorities took action to demolish illegal encroachments by illegal immigrants in the area, specifically structures and shanties near Nuh’s SKM Government Medical College.

Nuh’s SDM, Ashwini Kumar, stated that the demolition drive was carried out on the instructions of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The Nuh administration has not released any official statement regarding the bulldozer operation. However, officials present at the scene reported that the operation aimed at clearing the land from illegal encroachments. They asserted that there was no direct link drawn between the demolition drive and the recent communal tensions in the area. Before this incident, bulldozers were also used at four other locations in Tauru.

According to officials, approximately 40 illegal shops are being demolished in the area. This location was also the site where vehicles were set on fire and stone-pelting occurred during the communal tensions that unfolded in Nuh and neighbouring regions on July 31. Meanwhile, curfew restrictions under Section 144 are still in effect in Nuh, but there are certain relaxed hours for the residents.

Haryana’s Home Minister, Anil Vij, revealed that a total of 102 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered, and 202 individuals have been arrested in regard to the communal violence. Additionally, 80 people are being held in preventive detention as a measure to maintain law and order.

Minister Vij also stated that the firing incidents during the violence were pre-planned. Furthermore, he mentioned that the attackers had gathered stones to carry out their assault, and some rioters even fired bullets from elevated areas like hills.
