Air India Express reveals fresh identity and ambitious growth strategy

Air India Express and AIX Connect, both subsidiaries of the Tata-owned Air India Group, have unveiled a new unified brand identity known as “Air India Express.” This exciting development was showcased on the latest Boeing B737-8 aircraft during its flight from Hyderabad to Mumbai, signifying a significant milestone.

The rebranding effort introduces a fresh visual identity with vibrant colors. The Tata Group has chosen orange and turquoise as the primary colors, along with tangerine and ice blue as secondary colors, in line with Air India’s recent brand makeover.

The merged entity of Air India Expr and AirAsia India will now operate exclusively under the Air India Express name, marking the end of the AIX India brand. Aloke Singh, the Managing Director of Air India Express, has clarified that although the designator codes IX and I5 will continue for some time, all services, sales, and distribution will be consolidated under the unified Air India Express brand.

Air India Express has already added two B-737-8 aircraft to its fleet out of a total order of 470. These aircraft are gearing up to begin commercial operations, with the first flight scheduled on the Delhi-Guwahati-Imphal route on October 19.

Looking ahead, Air India Express is embarking on an ambitious expansion plan, intending to introduce 50 new aircraft into its fleet over the next 15 months. This expansion will see the airline doubling in size over the next five years, with a goal of reaching a fleet of approximately 170 narrow-body aircraft. Furthermore, the airline aims to expand its reach to tier-2 and tier-3 cities in India, as well as extending its services to the Gulf, Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

According to a report from the Times of India, Campbell Wilson, the CEO of Air India and Chairman of Air India Express, highlighted the magnitude of this expansion. He mentioned that, on average, the Air India Group is set to receive one new aircraft every six days until the end of 2024. Moreover, progress is being made on the merger of AirAsia India and Air India Express, as well as the planning and approvals for the merger of Air India and Vistara. Simultaneously, India’s largest training academy is making substantial progress in its development.

The airline also plans to expand its services to tier-2 and tier-3 cities in India and extend its reach to the Gulf, Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
