A devotee with only Rs 17 in the bank offers Rs 100 crore cheque to Andhra Temple

Officials of Simhachalam Devasthanam were in for a surprise when they found a Rs 100 crore cheque donated to the temple.

An unknown man on Wednesday, dropped an updated cheque for 100 crores into the hundi of Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Simhachalam, Andhra Pradesh. The cheque was found during the hundi counting process on August 23. When surprised temple authorities sent the cheque to the bank, they were shocked to know that thad only Rs 17 in his account.

It was revealed that the account from which the cheque was issued, held by Boodepalli Radhakrishna bearing account number 8313295434, had only Rs 17 to its name. The devotee has not written the date on the cheque which belongs to Kotak Mahindra Bank. The cheque shows that the account holder in the bank’s branch in Visakhapatnam.

The devotee is offering money, not repaying a debt.

“We noticed that there was no date on the cheque and there were some corrections on it. We found out that the devotee had an account with Kotak Mahindra Bank branch in MVP Colony. We do not know about the devotee’s psychological state of mind and his concept. We don’t know the devotee,” said Ramana Murthy, assistant executive officer (AEO) of Simhachalam temple. The temple authorities said that this would not come under a cheque bounce case as the devotee had not taken any loan from the temple. He is offering money.

“We can’t put the date on the cheque. Generally, devotees would drop cheques by signing cheques with the date,” the temple authorities said.

During the hundi counting, the Simhachalam temple received 1.79 crore, including 10 lakh coins, for the past 16 days. Around 79.980 grams of gold and 10.100 kilos of silver were received as hundi offerings from devotees according to a report.

Located on Simhachalam hill in the port city, Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple is one of the famous temples of Andhra Pradesh.
