Army launches scholarships for underprivileged students of J&K

There are 12 affiliated universities in which these students will pursue their higher education.

As part of Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army launched the Jammu and Kashmir Special Scholarship Scheme 2023 on Sunday with the intention of giving deserving but disadvantaged students access to higher education.

Scholarship worth Rs 1.2 lakhs each

According to the Indian Army, 146 children from various districts in the valley have been identified, and each would receive a scholarship worth Rs 1.2 lakhs each for their study.

“This program has a goal to bridge the gap between privileged and underprivileged students by offering scholarships and financial aid to those who exhibit exceptional potential and dedication in the field of education,” according to an official statement.

“The balance expenditure in respect of these students will be borne by the respective universities. There are 12 affiliated universities in which these students will be pursuing their Higher Education,” according to a representative for the defence.

“This programme has a goal to bridge the gap between privileged and underprivileged students by offering scholarships and financial aid to those who exhibit exceptional potential and dedication in the field of education,” the official continued.

According to the spokeswoman, 34 pupils were chosen from among the hundreds of applicants from the Kupwara district after a written exam and interview. The Kupwara-based Army division gave these students a heartfelt farewell at Drugmullah.

The ceremony was also intended to inspire more students from underprivileged social groups to seek higher education and “contribute to the building of an Atmanirbhar Bharat,” the official stated.

“The scholarship scheme is gaining a lot of popularity and many more students intend to pursue higher education through this joint initiative by the Indian Army and affiliated universities,” he concluded.

The real heroes

Let’s look at the Indian Army’s major and secondary tasks since not many of us are aware of their underappreciated services and have the misperception that they only engage in armed conflict.

We have seen how having a strong military aids in maintaining the principles we stand for as a nation, much like other Indian professions, this one value comes directly from the many millennia-old Indian past.

The main duties of the Indian Army are to protect India’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity from external threats and aggression.

During crises and natural disasters, secondary tasks include aiding civil authority and giving humanitarian assistance, help government organisations in addressing “proxy war” and other internal dangers, and aid civil authority when requested to do so.

The modest effort made by the Indian Army to launch scholarships to young children will pay off as they lessen the stress and financial strain on both kids and parents and enable students to concentrate on their academics and professional objectives. Additionally, they award deserving students and offer them opportunities and support. By creating more professionals and filling employment vacancies, such scholarships benefit the civilization.
