Lieutenant Inayat Vats marked a significant milestone by joining the Indian Army, two decades after her father, Major Navneet Vats, lost his life in action in Jammu and Kashmir. Commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Military Intelligence Corps, she completed her training at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai.

During the passing out parade, Ms. Vats proudly wore the same olive green uniform that her father, whom she lost at the age of three, once adorned.

The Indian Army warmly welcomed “Army Daughter Lieutenant Inayat Vats,” sharing a picture of her in uniform, with her mother, Shivani Vats, standing beside her.

Major Navneet Vats, commissioned into the Fourth Battalion of 3 Gorkha Rifles Regiment from Chandigarh, was posthumously honored with the gallantry award “Sena Medal” for his bravery and sacrifice during a counter-insurgency operation in Srinagar in November 2003.

Inayat Vats, an alumna of Delhi University’s Lady Shri Ram College, pursued her Master’s degree in Political Science at Hindu College, Delhi University, before embarking on her military journey at the Officers’ Training Academy in Chennai in April 2023.
