Woman allegedly stabbed husband in sleep over missed anniversary gift

A woman in Bengaluru is currently being investigated for attempted murder following an alleged stabbing incident involving her husband during a domestic dispute triggered by a missed wedding anniversary gift.
The episode occurred in Bengaluru’s tech corridor, where the victim, 37-year-old Kiran, employed in a private firm, suffered injuries after his wife, 35-year-old Sandhya, purportedly stabbed husband while he was asleep, angered by not receiving an anniversary gift.
According to police reports, the altercation unfolded in the early hours of February 27, when Sandhya, disappointed over the absence of an anniversary gift, turned to violence, using a kitchen knife to stab Kiran while he slept.
The attack was fuelled by Sandhya’s frustration, intensified by Kiran’s inability to provide a gift due to his grandfather’s recent passing away. Despite sustaining injuries to his hand, Kiran managed to defend himself, seek medical assistance with the help of neighbours, and involve the police.
On March 1, the Bellandur police formally charged Sandhya following a medico-legal report from the hospital. While acknowledging the familial nature of the incident, authorities stress the gravity of the allegations, prompting a thorough investigation. However, the police have allowed the couple time to privately address underlying issues, indicating that personal struggles and Sandhya’s emotional turmoil may have contributed to her actions. Kiran has expressed a desire for his wife to undergo counseling to address these issues.
This incident underscores the domestic pressures individuals face and emphasises the need for mental health support during personal crises.
