Data on Foreign aid by countries to India amid massive second Covid wave released by Health Ministry

A total of 8,900 oxygen concentrators, 5,043 oxygen cylinders, 18 oxygen generation plants, 4,668 ventilators/Bi-PAP and about 3.4 lakh Remdesivir vials have been delivered/ dispatched as international donations and aid from April 27 to May 9.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Monday released the data on the foreign aid received by the country amid the massive second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

Several countries around the world have come forward to help India as it continues to fight against the covid-19 pandemic’s Second wave. More than 14 nations have so far sent aid to India, and Delhi received materials from nearly all these countries as per reports.

“Cumulatively 8,900 oxygen concentrators, 5,043 oxygen cylinders, 18 oxygen generation plants, 5,698 ventilators/Bi PAP, about 3.4 lakh Remdesivir vials have been delivered/dispatched through road and air between April 27 and May 9,” the statement said.

Major items received on May 9 from the UK, South Korea, USISPF, include 1,000 ventilators/BiPAP/CPAP, 2,267 oxygen concentrators, 10,000 oximeters and 200 cylinders, it stated.

The Central government has been receiving international donations and aid of Covid-19 relief medical supplies and equipment since April 27 from different countries and organisations, according to the statement by the MoHFW.

“A dedicated Coordination Cell has been created in the Union Health Ministry to coordinate the receipt and allocation of foreign Covid relief material as grants, aid and donations. This Cell started functioning on April 26. A Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) has been framed and implemented by the Health Ministry since May 2,” it added.

This cell started functioning from April 26, it said.

According to the government, the foreign aid will help supplement the medical infrastructure of the tertiary care institutions and recipient states and UTs and strengthen their clinical management capacities for effective clinical management of the hospitalised Covid-19 patients.
