Baby girl born with 12 toes and 14 fingers in Rajasthan

In a very unusual case, a newborn was born with 12 toes and 14 fingers. The family considers the newborn, who was born in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, to be an incarnation of the goddess. She was born with seven fingers in each hand and six toes in each leg.

The doctors were surprised after seeing the rare condition and a huge public gathered to take a glimpse of the newborn, according to a news report.

According to India Today report Dr BS Soni stated, “There is no harm of any kind in having 26 fingers but it is a genetic anomaly. The girl is healthy.”

“Meanwhile, the mother’s brother said the family is elated at the baby’s birth and is considering her an incarnation of Dholagarh devi. “My sister has given birth to a baby who has 26 fingers and we are considering it to be the incarnation of Dholagarh Devi. We are very happy,” he said.

Sarju Devi, the mother of the newborn daughter, is a 25-year-old lady who was 8 months pregnant at the time of delivery. Gopal Bhattacharya, the baby’s father, works as a head constable for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Polydactyly

A newborn who is born with polydactyly has one or more additional fingers. It is a widespread ailment that frequently runs in families. Usually tiny and improperly grown, the additional fingers. Among the most prevalent hand deformities that are congenitally present at birth. Babies are born with the syndrome in about one out of every 500 to 1,000, usually only affecting one hand. Children of colour are more likely to have an extra little finger than Asian or White children, but extra thumbs are more common in children of colour. The several kinds of polydactyly include:

  • Preaxial (radial/tibial) polydactyly: An extra thumb or big toe.
  • Postaxial (ulnar/fibular) polydactyly: An extra pinkie finger or toe
  • Central polydactyly: A third finger or toe between the index, middle, and ring fingers, or any toe other than the big or pinkie toe, is referred to as central polydactyly.

Your child having more than five fingers or toes on either their hand or foot is the only sign of polydactyly, as per the Cleveland Clinic article.
