US Congressman of Indian origin introduces the resolution to pay respect to Dr B.R Ambedkar

this year celebrates the 130th birth anniversary of Bhim Rao Ambedkar. In the wake of this, Congressman Ro Khanna introduces a resolution to U.S house of Representative to honor Ambedkar's legacy.

On the anniversary of the 130th birthday of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Ro Khanna, who is an Indian American congressman, has introduced a resolution in the U.S House of Representative to honour Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution of India. He did it to inspire the young/upcoming leaders around the world of Ambedkar’s vision of developed India.  

Khanna tweeted on Wednesday saying that Ambedkar fought for a dignified India and America where everyone is treated with respect. He tweeted right after introducing the legislation in the US House of representative. 

Ro Khanna comes up with this resolution for the second time which recognises the racism and xenophobic sentiments against a certain section of society. With Ambedkar’s vision, he is in the pursuit to provide equal rights guarantee in the Indian Constitution. 

This resolution honours the legacy of Dr Ambedkar on the Constitution of India and the legal system around the world.  It also guarantees the prohibition against the age-old practice of untouchability and discrimination against caste, which is laid down in the principles of the UNDHR( United Nation Declaration of Human Rights).

Ambedkar’s contribution in science, economics, political science, civil rights, religious harmony influences the people across borders, advocating democratic values, equality and justice to the people belonging to different background, race, religion, caste and gender.

In 2010, Former President Barack Obama has cited Ambedkar’s achievement before the Indian Parliament, according to the notes in the resolution. He said that every human being in this world has some god gifted potential. He gave an example of Dr Ambedkar who laid down the entire constitution which protects the rights of every Indian. 

Besides being an architect of the Indian Constitution, Ambedkar has led the largest civil rights movement which aims to end social evil like caste discrimination. He even included Article 17 in Constitution which prohibits such practices as untouchability. 

As an economist, his influence is recorded in India’s financial system, which helped in the creation of the Finance Commission of India and Reserve Bank of India, says the resolution. He was also reduced the working hours of labourers from 12 hours to 8 hours. He also brought in measures like employee insurance, medical leave, minimum wages, equal pay for women and a timely pay scale.
