At UN, India reaffirms its backing for ‘diplomatically negotiated’ two-state resolution to Israel-Palestine matter

The Indian Permanent Representative to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj, stated that the large-scale loss of civilian lives, particularly among women and children, was unacceptable.

India expressed its deep concern about the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict on Tuesday, emphasizing the country’s longstanding relationship with the Palestinian people. The Indian Permanent Representative to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj, stated that the large-scale loss of civilian lives, particularly among women and children, was unacceptable. She stressed the need for all parties involved to demonstrate the utmost responsibility in addressing the humanitarian crisis arising from the conflict.

Kamboj conveyed India’s support for a negotiated two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine issue, advocating for the establishment of a sovereign, independent, and viable State of Palestine living within secure and recognized borders, coexisting peacefully with Israel. She highlighted the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East and strongly condemned the death of civilians, calling attention to the alarming humanitarian crisis.

The Indian representative welcomed international efforts aimed at de-escalation and the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people. In this context, she disclosed that India had sent 70 tons of humanitarian goods, including 16.5 tons of medicines and medical supplies, as part of their commitment to assisting those affected by the conflict.

Expressing concern for hostages, Kamboj urged the immediate and unconditional release of those still held. She reiterated India’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism and emphasized the universal obligation to observe international humanitarian law.

The representative highlighted the proactive engagement of India’s leadership in addressing the conflict. Prime Minister Modi and the External Affairs Minister have maintained close contact with leaders in the region and beyond. They consistently emphasized the importance of preventing escalation, ensuring the continued delivery of humanitarian aid, and working towards an early restoration of peace and stability.

In a positive development, Kamboj shared information about the release of hostages, with Hamas freeing 81 individuals and Israel releasing 180 Palestinian prisoners as part of the current truce. This truce brought a temporary respite to Hamas-ruled Gaza after seven weeks of bombardment, during which more than 15,000 people lost their lives. At the United Nations, India reaffirms its backing for a ‘diplomatically negotiated’ two-state resolution to the Israel-Palestine matte
