‘India stands firmly with Israel’: PM Modi receives update from Netanyahu

The Prime Minister affirmed his support for Israel, assuring Mr. Netanyahu that India stands by their side during this challenging period.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has disclosed that he received a call from the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, updating him on the ongoing situation in Israel after attacks by the Hamas terrorist group.

The Prime Minister affirmed his support for Israel, assuring Mr. Netanyahu that India stands by their side during this challenging period. He emphasized India’s strong condemnation of terrorism in all its manifestations.

The support message carries weight due to India’s historical alignment with the Palestinian cause, while also forging closer ties in recent times. This conflict arises as India positions itself for a more substantial role in the Middle East, presenting a diplomatic challenge to navigate.

PM Modi’s discussion with Mr. Netanyahu coincides with Palestine’s envoy urging India, a friend to both nations, to intervene and aid in resolving the crisis.

Meanwhile, the US, UK, Germany, France, and Italy have collectively declared unwavering support for Israel, condemning Hamas without reservation. In contrast, numerous Middle Eastern nations hold Israel responsible for the present state of affairs.

In a joint statement, the leaders of US, UK, France, Germany and Italy called Hamas’ actions appalling and warned against any country trying to take advantage of the current crisis in Israel.

“We make clear that the terrorist actions of Hamas have no justification, no legitimacy, and must be universally condemned. There is never any justification for terrorism. In recent days, the world has watched in horror as Hamas terrorists massacred families in their homes, slaughtered over 200 young people enjoying a music festival, and kidnapped elderly women, children, and entire families, who are now being held as hostages,” the statement said.

“Our countries will support in its efforts to defend itself and its people against such atrocities. We further emphasize that this is not a moment for any party hostile to Israel to exploit these attacks to seek advantage,” it added.
