Robots and AI will make jobs optional in the future: Elon Musk

Major advancements in this direction can be seen in XAI's Grok and Tesla's Optimus robot project.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, stated on Thursday, May 23, that traditional employment may eventually become a matter of choice rather than necessity.

“I do think that long term, in a benign scenario, any job that somebody does will be optional,” Musk said at a virtual interaction at annual technology conference VivaTech.

“If you want to do a job as a kind of hobby, you can, but otherwise AI and robots will provide any goods and services that you want,” he added.

In this futuristic scenario that Musk has outlined, the majority of production and service chores will be handled by AI and robotic technology, relieving people of the need to work for a living.

Given Musk’s role in developing cutting-edge robots and AI technology, this scenario is especially pertinent.

Major advancements in this direction can be seen in XAI’s Grok and Tesla’s Optimus robot project.

The Optimus Robot by Tesla

Advanced humanoid robot Tesla’s Optimus is being developed to handle hazardous and repetitive duties, potentially revolutionising a variety of industries, including healthcare and manufacturing.

The robot is designed to increase safety and productivity, bringing Musk’s vision of a world where most labor-intensive tasks are done by robots to life.

Grok from XAI

In the meantime, XAI is concentrating on creating AI to “accelerate human scientific discovery” with its artificial intelligence project, Grok.
