Meta to launch AI chatbots with different personalities by September

The chatbot will feature diverse characters and provide recommendations, searches, and playful interactions. Concerns about data privacy arise as Meta plans to collect large amounts of user data.

Meta, the parent company of platforms Facebook is set to unveil its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots with human-like personalities. Prototypes of these chatbots have been in development, and the final versions will be capable of engaging users in conversations at a level that closely resembles human interaction.

The forthcoming range of chatbots is expected to display various personalities, offering users an exciting and diverse experience. Sources indicate that the chatbots, nicknamed “personas” by Meta, will take on different characters. For instance, one bot is being designed to speak like the former United States president, Abraham Lincoln, while another will mimic the laid-back language of a surfer, providing travel advice.

Beyond just offering recommendations and enhanced search capabilities, allowing users to engage in playful interactions. Meta is considering automating checks on the chatbots’ outputs to prevent any rule-breaking speech and maintain the highest level of accuracy.

This exciting development comes as Meta is deeply committed to enhancing user retention. During the company’s recent 2023 second-quarter earnings call on July 26, Mark Zuckerberg expressed enthusiasm for their latest product, Threads, which is a direct competitor to Twitter. Zuckerberg noted a surprisingly high number of users returning daily to the platform. With a keen focus on Threads user retention, Meta is investing significantly in metaverse development, injecting an additional $3.7 billion into this ambitious project.

However, the introduction of these advanced chatbots also raises concerns about data privacy. By offering accessible chatbots, Meta will have the opportunity to collect vast amounts of user data. This issue has become particularly important in the tech industry, as OpenAI, the creator of the viral AI chatbot ChatGPT, has recently faced a class-action lawsuit over alleged data theft involving its chatbots.

As users eagerly await the launch of these “personas” in the coming months, the future of user engagement in the virtual world remains an exciting and ever-evolving landscape.
