Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma welcome baby boy

The couple also appealed to their fans to honor their privacy during this time.

Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli and actress Anushka Sharma have welcomed their second child, a baby boy named Akaay, on Tuesday, February 20.

In a joint statement posted on their social media accounts, Kohli and Anushka disclosed that their son was born on February 15. They also appealed to their fans to honor their privacy during this time.

“With abundant happiness and our hearts all of love, we are pleased to inform everyone that on 15th February, we welcomed our baby boy Akaay & Vamika’s little brother into this world!”

“We seek your blessings and good wishes in this beautiful time in our lives. We request you to kindly respect our privacy at this time.”

“Love & Gratitude. Virat & Anushka,” read the statement from Anushka Sharma on her Instagram post.

Kohli and Anushka Sharma exchanged vows in 2017. The renowned couple celebrated their daughter Vamika’s third birthday on January 11, 2024.

Notably, in 2021, Kohli, then captain, placed family as a priority. He returned home after the first Test of a 4-match series against Australia to be present for the birth of their first child.

Initially, Kohli opted out of the first two Tests against England, with India losing the first match in Hyderabad and winning the second in Vizag. However, he later withdrew from the entire series, citing personal reasons, a decision backed by the BCCI.

AB de Villiers initially disclosed on his YouTube channel that Kohli and Anushka were expecting their second child. However, he later reversed his statement, stating he was unsure why Kohli had taken a break.

The name Akaay has Hindi roots with Turkish origin. According to Google, it signifies “Illuminating light of the full moon.” In Sanskrit, it translates to “immortal” or “non-decaying.” It’s a significant and meaningful choice reflecting the couple’s cultural heritage and affection for traditional Indian names.
