ICC release Cricket World Cup 2023 fixtures; India vs Pakistan to be on 15th of October in Ahmedabad
The World Cup will start on 5th October and will feature 48 matches in 10 venues.
After much anticipation, ICC has finally released the schedule of the 2023 ICC World Cup to the delight of cricket fans across the world. The World Cup is slated to begin on the 5th of October 2023 with England vs New Zealand, the two finalists of the previous edition of the World Cup and the Final is to be played on the 19th November 2023 in Ahmedabad.
Ten venues have been selected for the World Cup which will be completely hosted in India unlike the 2011 World Cup which was co-hosted by India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The venues for the world cup are Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Dharamsala, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Team India will start their campaign on the 8th of October against Australia and will face all of the other teams. The most notable fixture of the schedule will be India vs Pakistan which will be played in the Narendra Modi Stadium on the 15th of October 2023.
The squad for the World Cup has not been released by BCCI but it is expected Rohit Sharma will lead the team with Hardik Pandya as the vice captain. This is however purely speculation.
The competition will feature 10 teams: India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, who qualified through the Cricket World Cup Super League and other two teams will be those who qualify to play through the World Cup Qualifiers currently being played in Zimbabwe which will conclude on July 9.
The competition will be conducted in 3 rounds: Round Robin, Semi-Finals and Finals. Each team will play the other nine team in the Round Robin format. The top four of those teams will play the two Semi-Finals and the winner of the two Semi-Finals will play the Finals.
The tickets for the World Cup have not been released yet but are expected to launched soon as the world cup starts in about 100 days. England had won the last World Cup after defeating New Zealand. The last World Cup was hosted in England in 2019.
