Shivraj Singh Chouhan condemns Digvijaya Singh’s ‘nautanki’ remark as an insult to Sanatan culture

Singh had made this remark while discussing the abduction of two girls from Bhopal during Chouhan's "Kanya Bhoj" event at his residence.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan criticized Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for his comment about “Kanya Pujan” being a “nautanki” (drama) and insulting Sanatan culture. Singh had made this remark while discussing the abduction of two girls from Bhopal during Chouhan’s “Kanya Bhoj” event at his residence. Singh referred to Chouhan as a master of theatrics and even suggested that the Prime Minister is scared of him because of his theatrics (nautanki).

During a public meeting in Orchha on Tuesday, the Chief Minister expressed his dismay over Digvijaya Singh’s derogatory remarks about “Sanatan” culture, specifically regarding “Kanya Pujan,” which Singh had dismissed as “nautanki” (drama). The Chief Minister pointed out that someone who referred to women using derogatory terms like “tunch maal” and “item” couldn’t possibly comprehend the true essence and significance of “Kanya Pujan.”

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed his disappointment, stating that worshipping daughters is a cherished tradition in Sanatan culture, observed by the entire nation. He criticized Digvijaya Singh for labeling it as “natak-nautanki” (drama), emphasizing that Singh’s perspective reflected his own values. Chouhan highlighted his government’s initiatives, including the “Ladli Laxmi” program, which has made 43 lakh girls in Madhya Pradesh financially independent.

He also mentioned the government’s commitment to depositing money into the accounts of women and thanked the Prime Minister for the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill, providing 33% reservation to women. The Congress had lodged a complaint against Chouhan for his assurance to continue funding the accounts of Ladli Bahna beneficiaries.

Chouhan announced that the names of eligible women not initially included in the list of beneficiaries would be added. Additionally, women aged 21 years and above would also benefit from the scheme. He reiterated his accusation against the Congress, stating that they had discontinued several welfare schemes initiated by his government, such as the “Sambal Yojana” and “Tirthdarshan Yojana.”
