60% married Indians are looking to swing, date outside of marriage: survey

The survey studied 1503 married Indians from tier 1 and tier 2 cities between the ages of 25 to 50

In a survey carried out by Gleeden, an extramarital dating app, it has been stated that there has been a notable movement in Indian society towards infidelity. For the survey it studied 1503 married Indians from tier 1 and tier 2 cities between the ages of 25 to 50.

This research revealed that over 60% of the people surveyed were embracing non traditional dating methods such as swinging and the results indicate a growing acceptance to alternative relationship practises. However, this study appears to show a picture of modern Indian relationships that are evolving drastically, pretty clearly.

The survey found out that infidelity is not just limited to sexual or physical involvement with another person but also looking for an emotional connect while being in a platonic relationship. Surprisingly, the research found that 46% of men tend to pursue such relationships, with differences among locations, including a noteworthy 52% in Kolkata.

Another common form of infidelity is flirting on the internet. As per the survey, 36% of women and 35% of men find virtual attractive and have taken part in it.

The survey also reveals that 33% of men and 35% of women have fantasies and often dream and openly admit to having such fantasies.

This survey is an eye-opener to what actually happens in the real world compared to what is normally thought as ‘normal relationship status’ in the society. Sybil Shiddell, Gleeden’s country manager in India said, “The survey offers a fascinating window into the intricate realm of contemporary Indian relationships. It questions accepted wisdom and calls on society to consider the changing nature of love, commitment, and the quest for personal fulfilment.”

“It also reflects the country’s acceptance of individuality and personal autonomy. This viewpoint not only defies conventional wisdom and presents Indians as bold but also themes of love and self-expression,” she added.
