Reliance Foundation unveils Vantara Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Jamnagar

The Reliance Foundation has unveiled Vantara, a 650-acre Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre for animals from distressed environments globally. The centre rescues and houses animals in state-of-the-art enclosures, caring for over 2,000 animals across 43 species.

With a staff of approximately 2,100, the centre has saved 200 leopards from road accidents or man-wild conflicts, rescued 1,000 crocodiles from an overcrowded facility in Tamil Nadu, and rescued animals from hunting lodges in Africa, as well as distressed animals from facilities in Mexico and Slovakia.

Featuring a 1 lakh sqft hospital and medical research centre, equipped with advanced technology such as an ICU, MRI, CT scan, X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, dental scalar, lithotripsy, dialysis, and OR1 technology for live videoconferences during surgeries and blood plasma separation.

The Vantara Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre has initiated conservation breeding programs for seven endangered species to establish viable reserve populations and repopulate native habitats, preventing extinction.

Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation jointly launched the Vantara (Star of the Forest) programme, a unique initiative focusing on the rescue, treatment, care, and rehabilitation of injured, abused, and threatened animals globally. Spread over 3,000 acres within the Green Belt of Reliance’s Jamnagar Refinery Complex in Gujarat, Vantara aims to be a significant contributor to global conservation efforts.

Under the leadership of Anant Ambani, Director on the boards of RIL and Reliance Foundation, Vantara has provided a new lease of life to over 200 elephants, 300 large felines, including leopards, tigers, lions, jaguars, 300 herbivores like deer, and over 1,200 reptiles such as crocodiles, snakes, and turtles.
