Urgent Reminder: FASTag KYC Deadline Approaching, Take Action Now

The introduction of the FASTag KYC check aims to enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and ensure a smooth flow at toll plazas

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued a crucial update for road travelers, stating that the Know Your Customer (KYC) deadline for FASTag expires on January 31. Failure to complete the KYC process by this date will result in the FASTag becoming inoperative from February 1. FASTag is a pre-paid tag for vehicles, facilitating seamless traffic movement through toll plazas without the need to stop.

The introduction of the FASTag KYC check aims to enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and ensure a smooth flow at toll plazas. NHAI initiated this move after discovering instances of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and the issuance of FASTags without complying with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) mandate on KYC.

For those who may have overlooked the January 31 deadline, the NHAI issued a notification in December, emphasizing the need for timely KYC updates. Here’s a guide on what to do for last-minute FASTag KYC updates:

  1. Online Facility Over In-Person Solutions:
As most bank branches close by 4 pm, opting for online facilities is advised over in-person solutions. This ensures that individuals can meet the deadline without constraints.
  2. Access the Bank’s FASTag Website:
Visit the FASTag website of the bank that issued your RFID document. A quick Google search using the bank’s name and the keyword ‘FASTag’ will lead you to the required page.
  3. Login and OTP Verification:
Log in using your registered mobile number and enter the OTP received. This ensures secure access to your FASTag account.
  4. Navigate to My Profile and KYC Tab:
Go to the ‘My Profile’ section and click on the ‘KYC’ tab. This is where you can initiate the KYC update process.
  5. Submit Required Details:
Fill in the necessary details, including address proof, and submit the information. The KYC page will then display your updated status.

Documents Required for FASTag KYC:

  • Registration certificate of the vehicle
  • Identity proof (Passport, Voter’s ID, Aadhar Card, Driving Licence, PAN Card)
  • Address proof (Passport, Voter’s ID, Aadhar Card, Driving Licence, PAN Card)
  • Passport-size photo

Completing the KYC process ensures compliance with the NHAI’s directive and the RBI’s mandate, allowing for the continued seamless use of FASTag services. It is essential for travelers to act promptly to avoid any disruptions in their road journeys.

In conclusion, the NHAI’s reminder emphasizes the significance of adhering to the FASTag KYC deadline. By promptly updating the necessary details online, travelers can ensure the continued functionality of their FASTags and experience hassle-free journeys through toll plazas. Taking immediate action is crucial to prevent any inconveniences that may arise from an inoperative FASTag after the deadline.
