The saga of Indian politicians and their bizarre remedies for fighting the novel coronavirus continues.

First, Samajwadi Party’s Sambhal MP Shafiqur Rehman Barq on Tuesday demanded the opening of Idgahs and mosques on the occassion of Bakra Eid to offer to prayers to end Coronavirus. He said that coronavirus is not a disease but punishment by God for people’s sins and the best cure of coronavirus is to pray to God.

“I believe that when we will apologise in the mosques, pray for coronavirus to end, God will listen to our prayers and the situation will improve,” he added.

This wasn’t the first time that a politician or muslim preacher claimed that reciting namaz can defeat the COVID19 pandemic and we are sure it wasnt the last either.

Similarly, BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur on Saturday appealed people to recite the Hanuman Chalisa five times a day till August 5, which she believes will rid the world of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Though the lockdown will be over on August 4, this ritual (recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa, a hymn in praise of Lord Hanuman) will end on August 5, when ‘bhoomi pujan’ for Ram temple in Ayodhya will be performed. We will celebrate that day like Diwali,” she added.

“When people… Hindus from across the country recite the ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ in one voice, it will definitely work and we will be free from coronavirus…This is your prayer to Lord Ram,” said Thakur.

Indian politicians need to understand that a virus which is so developed that no vaccine has been able to cure it, wont be cured by just reciting religious prayers. Although with respect to spirituality and keeping minds positive, such acts can be performed on regular basis but researches and medical facilities cannot just be abandoned because they ‘think’ the virus will be cured.

Instead of giving such controversial statements, these politicians either need to educate themselves, or restrain from appearing in the media as they not only satirize the religion but the people as well as their political parties.
