Govt expedites infra in Ayodhya, as ‘Ram Mandir’ to open in 2024

Government making efforts to make Ayodhya ‘world class’ city ahead of Ram Mandir opening

Ayodhya is currently undergoing a significant transformation as it prepares for the grand opening of the Ram temple in January next year, a longstanding promise of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Uttar Pradesh government has expedited infrastructure works in Ayodhya, including the expansion of its airport and railway station. The aim is not only to complete the temple construction by January 2024 but also to turn Ayodhya into a world-class city.

To achieve this vision, resources are being allocated to numerous infrastructure, redevelopment, and welfare projects worth a staggering Rs 57,136.21 crore. These initiatives are intended to transform Ayodhya and its surroundings into an international religious tourism destination. While several projects are focused on beautification and enhancing public amenities, the majority of the infrastructure projects are dedicated to improving connectivity within Ayodhya.

Enhancing connectivity entails the construction of a new airport, the expansion of Ayodhya and Ayodhya Cantt railway stations, the proposed redevelopment of Darshannagar and Bharakund railway stations in the district, the upgrading of the bus station, and the implementation of various inter- and intra-city road projects. Additionally, provisions are being made for a Ramayana-themed boat ride facility.

The development efforts include the construction of the Ram Path, a 13-kilometer road stretching from Sahadatganj to Naya Ghat. Simultaneously, plans are underway for the construction of the Ramjanaki Path and the Bhakti Path, with their outlines already prepared.

These road corridors hold significant importance as they will facilitate the movement of devotees to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi and the Hanuman Garhi temple. The Ram Janmabhoomi Path will have a width of 30 meters, while the Bhakti Path will be 14 meters wide. These infrastructure developments aim to ensure smooth accessibility and convenience for visitors to these revered religious sites.

“We are trying to expand connectivity at a huge level because two to three lakh visitors are expected to reach Ayodhya after the opening of the temple,” Ayodhya district magistrate Nitish Kumar.
