Airbus and IIT Kanpur forge MoU to elevate India’s aerospace talent pool

Airbus and the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their collaboration in promoting talent development within the Indian aerospace sector. This partnership is significant and aims to improve the aerospace industry in India by fostering research in advanced technologies and enhancing the technical capabilities of aerospace students in the country.

Furthermore, both organisations plan to explore collaborative opportunities with global institutes, allowing students to work on projects relevant to the aerospace sector. This joint effort will create a culture of mentorship, exposure, and valuable experiences for IIT Kanpur students, ultimately benefiting the aerospace industry’s growth in India.

In the signing ceremony, Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, emphasized Airbus’s commitment to developing the aerospace ecosystem in India. They plan to invest in education and skill development to build a competent workforce in the country. This MoU leverages Airbus’s expertise and IIT Kanpur’s capabilities in education, research, and training to nurture the next generation of technology leaders and unlock the potential of India’s rapidly evolving aerospace landscape.

S. Ganesh, the Officiating Director of IIT Kanpur, highlighted IIT Kanpur’s vision to support innovation, research, and entrepreneurial activities in technology-based fields. Aerospace is a key focus area, and the collaboration with Airbus is a significant step toward enhancing the industry experience of aerospace engineering students at the institute. With the Aerospace Department’s extensive research and development activities, this partnership promises to be mutually beneficial.

G. M. Kamath, Head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Kanpur, underlined the department’s historical leadership in building strong industry-academia connections. They have consistently worked to ensure that their research prepares students to be more industry-ready. The collaboration between Airbus and IIT Kanpur is expected to yield meaningful outcomes not only for both entities but also for the broader aerospace ecosystem in India.
