G20 Summit: Here’s what on the agenda on September 9th and 10th as world leaders arrive in Delhi

India is hosting the G20 summit in the national capital, New Delhi at the newly inaugurated Bharat Mandapam

As the 18th G20 meeting is finally underway after leaders of different countries from all over the world arrived in New Delhi, it is important to know what is going to happen throughout the G20 summit. The summit will additionally see the participation of 14 heads of international organisations, making it a very significant and important meeting on the global stage.

G20 summit there is a long list of leaders

For the G20 summit there is a long list of leaders who have come to India, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and France President Emmanuel Macron, amongst others, wherein they will hold talks to find solutions to some of the world’s pressing problems. In addition to the G20 discussions, PM Modi will also be holding bilateral meetings with several leaders to further deepen the bonds of friendship and cooperation, in addition to other world leaders holding their bilateral talks.

As reported by ANI, the Summit would commence with the arrival of the world leaders at the venue which is Bharat Mandapam from 9.30 AM onwards. The first session of the G20 Summit, scheduled for approximately 10:30AM, will centre around the theme of ‘One Earth,’ which represents a central topic of discussion among G20 leaders. This session is dedicated to expediting climate action by enhancing mitigation efforts and reinforcing the global commitment to achieving net-zero emissions at the earliest possible juncture, ANI reported.

The theme for this year’s summit is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth · One Family · One Future”, which is drawn from the ancient Sanskrit text of the Maha Upanishad. This term basically means that the world is our family and we must live in unity and peace with each other.

After the conclusion of the ‘One Earth’ session, and followed by lunch, another session of ‘One Family’ would be conducted at 3.00 p.m. as a part of the Summit. At around 7:00 pm in the evening hours, the dinner hosted by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu will take place which will be attended by foreign delegates, parliamentarians and ministers of the cabinet. Along with the foreign delegates, parliamentarians and ministers in the current Cabinet, the G20 Summit dinner will also be attended by some of the former senior leaders of the nation.

As for September 10th, the world leaders will arrive at Rajghat by 9 AM and sign the Peace Wall inside the Leaders’ Lounge at Rajghat. After which they will lay wreaths on Mahatma Gandhi’s samadhi and watch a live performance of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite devotional songs. Leaders will then move to the Leader’s Lounge and depart for the Bharat Mandapam.

After their arrival at Bharat Mandapam, the leaders will take part in a tree planting ceremony at South Plaza, Level 2 of the Bharat Mandapam. The leaders will then at 10:30 AM sit for the third session at the One Future at Summit Hall, Level 2 of the Bharat Mandapam after which the leaders will adopt the New Delhi Leaders Declaration.
