Trouble in paradise: Joe Jonas files for divorce from wife Sophie Turner
The American singer is being represented by Tom Sasser, as he trots about Miami without a wedding ring. The lawyer also helped through Tiger Woods' divorce.
Joe Jonas has lawyered up against his (ex) sweetheart and wife Sophie Turner to file for divorce on the grounds of the marriage being “irretrievably broken”.
Joe Jonas, singer and part of the trio The Jonas Brothers, filed for divorce in Miami-Dade County court on Tuesday (Sept 5th). The plea called the marriage irreparable and the 34-year-old singer requests “shared parental responsibilities” between both parties for their two daughters – 3-year-old Willa and another kid born to them in 2022 whose name is kept anonymous. Joe Jonas also requested the prenup agreement in April 2019 to be enforced as soon as possible.
The American singer is being represented by Tom Sasser, who has also handled Tigers Woods’ divorce in the past.
“It is in the best interests of the minor children that the parties have shared parental responsibility,” the petition reads. “A parenting plan should be established, which addresses all parenting issues and contains a timesharing schedule providing for frequent and continuing contact with both parties.”
Joe has been taking care of the children pretty much all of the time over the last 3 months. When it comes time to hash out a custody arrangement, he could ask for significantly more than 50% physical custody, sources say that’s likely.
Their 3-year-old daughter, Willa, and their second daughter, who was born in July 2022 and whose name remains private, have been living with Jonas in Miami “and other locations throughout the United States,” the petition adds.
In the beginning of this dalliance, mutual acquaintances of Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner badly wanted the two to meet, but they were unable to do so. When Joe sent Sophie a direct message on Instagram, everything changed. “We had a lot of mutual friends,” the Game of Thrones actress remarked in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK. And they’d been attempting to introduce us for quite some time. We were following each other on Instagram when he unexpectedly direct-messaged me.”
After their engagement in 2017, Jonas and Turner married an Elvis impersonator-officiated wedding in Las Vegas following the Billboard Music Awards in May 2019. They followed up with a much more luxurious wedding in France in July 2019, inviting family, friends, and other well-known celebrities to celebrate.
Sophie Turner got along perfectly with the Jonas family if appearances were to be believed. “It’s also nice to have built-in girlfriends who are actually really cool, who I can hang out with and we can really talk to each other about, like, how crazy the boys’ lives are,” she told ELLE. “We can relate on so many different levels. It’s like, thank God, because you never know (about your in-laws).” Joe’s relationship with Sphie’s family is not known.
The inputs from Sophie Turner’s camp is yet to be reported.
Jonas is currently on tour with the Jonas Brothers as the band’s largest tour to date is underway. Turner was recently in England filming the upcoming British TV series “Joan.”
