A tragic incident has come forward from Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district where a 40-year-old woman was found dead and chopped into 3 pieces after allegedly being raped. The woman’s body was found close to a local flour mill where she was employed on Tuesday after which an FIR was filed against the three suspects on Wednesday.

While, it was initially assumed that the woman died in a freak accident in the flour mill, however, the woman’s daughter claims that when she reached the mill at 2:30 PM, it was closed and could not open it in spite of her mother’s screams. The daughter then said that Bauwa, the brother of the chakki owner Raj Kumar Shukla opened the door in an intoxicated state. She then said that when she entered, she saw Raj and his brother Ram sitting there close to her mother’s body which was cut in 3 pieces. The daughter then questioned as to how her mother can get stuck in the chakki belt and die when the village sees a power cut everyday from 2 PM to 5 PM.

SHO Girva Police Station Sandip Tiwari said that the post-mortem has been conducted by a panel of two doctors and the entire process has been video recorded. In a statement of the accused taken by the police, the woman’s husband is the ‘bataidar’ of four bighas of land which shows that a large part of the land has been leased and the Shuklas will split the profits accordingly. Raj also said that the woman was called to help him plaster the room with mud after which she had left the chakki.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, trying to politicise the matter, said on X that, “The news of rape and heinous murder of a Dalit in Banda is heart-wrenching. The women of Uttar Pradesh are scared and also angry.” The former chief minister also mentioned the incident of stripping and making indecent videos of a female student of IIT-BHU.

“The incident of making a video of a female student of IIT-BHU after stripping her after indecency is a slap on the face of the law and order in Uttar Pradesh and exposes BJP’s big lie of zero tolerance,” he said. “The women of Uttar Pradesh have completely lost faith in the BJP government. Now any expectation from this government is meaningless,” Yadav said.
