Section 144 and paramilitary deployed imposed as violence erupts in Haryana

All educational institutes in Gurugram and Faridabad to remain close today amidst communal violence.

A religious parade headed by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Nuh, Haryana was disrupted by conflicts that left four people—two home guards, and two civilians —dead and several police officers injured. One person was killed in Gurugram while the other three were in Nuh. When a mob attempted to block a Vishva Hindu Parishad march on Monday, fighting broke out during the religious parade in Haryana’s Nuh. Clashes broke out between the two groups, cars were burned and stones were thrown.

Protesters from two communities battled near Sohna Road in Gurugram as news of the violence in Nuh spread, causing damage to multiple vehicles. Also, protesters spent hours blocking a road. The situation in Nuh, Sohna, and other areas is under control, according to a Haryana government official. There are currently up to 13 Companies of Paramilitary forces stationed there, and more companies will arrive soon. To prevent any untoward incidents in Faridabad, Palwal, and Gurugram, section 144 is in place in place of a curfew. The Peace Committee meeting will start soon in Sohna, Gurugram.

All schools and institutions in Gurugram and Faridabad will be closed on Tuesday, August 1 as a result of the violent incidents. In Gurugram and Nuh, prohibitive orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) were issued. According to the Haryana government, mobile internet connections have been blocked in the Nuh district until Wednesday, August 2, to reduce the “intense communal tension”.

Police reportedly evacuated some 2,500 people from a Shiva temple in Nuh, according to Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij. It appears that both worshippers and others who had sought refuge there during the fighting were among them. Home Minister Anil Vij said that there is a conspiracy behind the religious clashes as both communities have been staying in Nuh without any issues or violence for a long time.
