In a heart-wrenching incident on the evening of Holi, a 5-year-old girl in Delhi’s Bawana area fell victim to a heinous crime. The man responsible for her rape and murder hid her lifeless body in a factory before fleeing the town.

On March 24th, while the city was busy celebrating pre-Holi festivities, the Bawana police station received a call at around 10:27 pm. The parents of a 5-year-old girl, who run a tea shop, reported her missing. They had last seen her around 5 pm, but she couldn’t be found later. A case was immediately registered, and the police, along with the parents, conducted a manual search throughout the night, but despite their efforts, the little girl remained missing. The factories in the area were closed due to the festive occasion.

CCTV Clues

The next morning, on March 25, investigators reviewed CCTV footage from the area. In one of the recordings, they spotted the girl walking alongside a man. Her parents identified him as Totan.

The police rushed to Totan’s workplace and residence to arrest him, but he had already escaped. Interrogating laborers who knew him, they discovered that Totan was planning to board the Poorva Express from New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) to Howrah.

A dedicated police team was immediately formed to reach NDLS, but unfortunately, the train had already departed.

On March 26, the team headed to Kolkata Airport and boarded a train bound for Asansol railway station to catch the Poorva Express. When the train arrived, they meticulously searched for Totan and apprehended him within minutes. He was brought back to Delhi on March 27. During interrogation, Totan confessed to raping and killing the girl. Her lifeless body was eventually found in a Bawana factory, along with a blade and a brick.

The police have charged Totan under the POCSO Act, along with sections 302 (murder) and 376 (punishment for rape). The investigation continues as they seek justice for the innocent child. This tragic incident highlights the urgency of safeguarding our children and ensuring swift justice for such heinous crimes.
