Angry over ‘late’ arrival, Pune man fires at pizza delivery boy

Chetan Vasant Padwal (28), the man in custody, is the owner of a stone-crushing company and was annoyed over no refund from the pizza company.

After a fight with a pizza delivery guy over the delayed delivery of a food parcel, the son of the owner of a stone crushing business in Wagholi fired a round from his licenced pistol.

The licenced handgun used in the incident has been recovered by the police, who have identified him as 27-year-old Chetan Vasant Padwal.

Following a complaint from the manager of the pizza shop, Rahul Hulsure, 22, the police opened a case against Padwal for attempted culpable homicide, assault, vengeful insult, and criminal intimidation.

The incident happened on Monday night in Pune’s Wagholi neighbourhood at the Ozone Villas residential complex. Chetan Vasant Padwal (28), the man in custody, is the owner of a stone-crushing company.

Padwal placed an order for a pizza at 10:30 p.m., and Rahul Ghorpade was assigned to deliver it. The two went to Padwal’s residence to deliver the pizza since Rushikesh Annapurve, another executive from the shop, was planning to ride his motorbike with Ghorpade home.

Upon arriving at the address just after 11 p.m., they got into a fight over a delivery delay, during which Padwal allegedly verbally harassed and physically attacked them.

Hulsure received a call from both delivery executives informing him of the situation. A little while later, Hulsure, two other store employees, and the two delivery executives went to Padwal’s house to speak with him about the assault, stated the FIR. After a disagreement, Padwal is said to have attacked Hulsure as well.

Senior inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade reported, “Our investigations revealed that Padwal picked up an argument with delivery person Hrishikesh for arriving late to his row house and physically assaulted him. Hrishikesh left, but returned a little later with Hulsure and colleague Devendra to confront Padwal for his intemperate behaviour and assault.” The Lonikand police station’s inspector, Vishwajeet Kaingade, stated that Padwal had a licence to use the registered handgun that was used.

The FIR states that after running to his car, Padwal pulled out a revolver and fired a single round in the air. The incident resulted in no injuries.

According to the police officer, Padwal has been charged with attempted culpable homicide since anyone may have been hit by the gunshot, particularly residents of the residential society who live on higher floors. In addition, he has been charged with criminal intimidation and intentionally causing harm.

The FIR was filed against him under sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 323 (causing pain), 504 (intentional insult to incite breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, as reported by The Hindustan Times.
