Blinkit delivery boy rapes & assaults 19-year-old when she opened the door to collect order

A large population across the country order their meals and groceries, apart from other goods, via online mobile apps, and this has indeed created an environment of ease and convenience for all in today’s fast-paced life. However, apart from online fraud and refund-related issues, women’s safety is another major issue that needs to be addressed when it comes to online service apps and their operations.

In a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida, a woman was raped by a delivery person working for Blinkit who had gone to the victim’s house to deliver groceries. The woman, who lives in a high-rise apartment in the city, had placed her grocery order using a popular mobile app.

The woman had placed an order for groceries through a mobile app, and 23-year-old man named Sumit was the delivery person assigned to her. Unfortunately, upon reaching her home, Sumit noticed that the woman was alone, and he forcibly entered her residence, where the sexual assault took place. After the terrible incident, he quickly left the scene, leaving the victim in shock and distress. The woman wasted no time and reported the crime to the police on the very same day.

The law enforcement authorities swiftly responded to the complaint, forming multiple teams to track down Sumit, the alleged perpetrator. Their efforts eventually led them to a residential area in Greater Noida, where Sumit was found. However, the situation took a dangerous turn when the police attempted to apprehend him. Sumit managed to seize a pistol from one of the constables and made a desperate attempt to escape. This created a potentially lethal standoff, prompting the deployment of reinforcements and a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to assist in the operation.

As the police intensified their search and closed in on Sumit, he resorted to violence by firing his seized pistol at the pursuing officers. In response to this threat, the police had no choice but to defend themselves. In the exchange of gunfire, Sumit sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. This injury forced him to surrender, and he was subsequently taken into custody. Currently, Sumit is undergoing medical treatment in a hospital for his injuries. Notably, this incident is not his first encounter with the law, as he has a prior arrest record related to the illegal sale of liquor.
