Mother in California fills bottle with alcohol to stop baby from crying
The child is being treated at a hospital and the health condition has not been revealed.
In a baffling incident from the state of California in the United States of America, a mother filled her baby’s bottle with alcohol and fed it to her baby to stop the baby from crying, following which the 7-week-old baby became intoxicated.
According to authorities, deputies were called around 12:45 AM. On Saturday to an unincorporated area of Rialto, 55 miles east of Los Angeles in the United States. The Sheriff’s department later said that the 37-year-old woman named Honesti De La Torre has been charged with child endangerment for her shocking act.
As per officials, De La Torre was driving through Rialto and stopped to put alcohol in the baby’s bottle in an attempt to stop the baby from crying. The child is currently being treated at a hospital but the health condition has not been revealed. Meanwhile, the mother is being held in the West Valley Detention Centre on a $60,000 bond. She is expected to appear in court Tuesday.
This incident is similar to one we saw in August 2022, when two people in the UK were arrested after distressing visuals went viral which showed the two people tilting the baby’s head and giving it shots of vodka.
“Alcohol till the age of recommended age is strictly prohibited and there are no exceptions to it. Not only it doesn’t have any advantages, but the amount of disadvantages it poses is also phenomenal. It depresses the nervous system which can stop breathing as well. Even a lactating mother shouldn’t consume alcohol, as it passes through breast milk,” warned Dr Chhabra, Chief Pediatrics at Artemis Hospitals Gurgaon.
