After Rashmika Mandanna and Katrina Kaif, even Kajol’s deepfake video surfaces online

The influencer, identified as Rosie Breen, originally posted the video on TikTok on June 5, 2023, as part of the 'Get Ready With Me' (GRWM) trend

After deepfake videos and photos of Rashmika Mandanna and Katrina Kaif emerged on the internet, a new ‘deepfaked’ video of Bollywood actress Kajol has also spread online. In the video, we can see a woman whose face has been morphed with Kajol changing clothes on camera but as per multiple reports, the video actually belongs to an English influencer identified as Rosie Breen who had originally posted the video on TikTok as part of her ‘Get Ready With Me’ (GRWM) trend.

When the deepfake video emerged a few days back, many users thought that it was indeed the Bollywood actress changing her outfit. However, it was later pointed out by several websites that the video was digitally altered using Artificial Intelligence tools which have been used to do similar things in the past.

The new deepfake video comes in amidst growing concern over the spread of AI and its use for criminal activities and photos and videos of various celebrities popped up online. In the case of Katrina Kaif, a photo from her upcoming movie ‘Tiger 3’ emerged online in which Katrina Kaif is seen wearing a low-cut white top and a matching bottom and fighting a stuntwoman whereas in the original photo she is seen wearing a towel instead of the white top and matching bottom.

In Rashmika Mandanna’s case, a deepfake video showed a woman, dressed in black, entering a lift. However, her face was morphed and edited in a way that it resembled the actor. Social media users also pointed out that the video is fake and raised questions on how unreliable information is being shared online. Even Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan demanded legal action over the morphed video after Rashmika Mandanna reacted on the video and called it scary. An FIR was registered against unknown individuals by the Delhi Police in Mandanna’s case. The cops later also questioned a 19-year-old from Bihar in connection to the case as they suspected that he was the first one to upload the video on social media.
