Ensuring a strong relationship with the people of the nation, Rahul Gandhi, the former chief of the Congress party, continues on his journey to understand the struggles and lives of the common man. His latest stop was at the renowned Kirti Nagar furniture market in Delhi.
Carpenters, Craftsmen and Conversations
On Thursday, Gandhi extended his warm presence to the carpenters laboriously working at the Kirti Nagar furniture market, reputed as Asia’s largest furniture market. It was a day filled with conversations, shared experiences, and even some hands-on experience in furniture crafting for Rahul Gandhi.
“Today I went to Asia’s largest furniture market located in Kirti Nagar, Delhi and met the carpenter brothers…We talked a lot, got to know a little about their skills and tried to learn a bit,” – Rahul Gandhi
The Congress leader took this opportunity to acknowledge the diligent effort and artistic finesse that these carpenters bring to their profession.
A Continuation of ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’
This event is one among many of Gandhi’s recent ‘reaching-out’ exercises in the city. The motive behind these visits is to bridge the gap between the powerful and the people, aptly named ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra‘ by the Congress party.
- His first visit was in August when he met fruit and vegetable vendors at the Azadpur Mandi.
- Next, he chose to interact with the porters at the Anand Vihar railway station.
- His most recent one being the experience shared with the carpenters at Kirti Nagar market.
“The Bharat Jodo Yatra is still on,” affirmed the party, suggesting that there are more such interactions in the pipeline.
Understanding the Common Man’s Struggle
Gandhi’s visits are not just about engagement, but also about understanding their struggles.
“Coolies are among the most hardworking people of India… From generation to generation, they spend their lives helping millions of travelers in their journey… There is a share of responsibility for them, but there is very little progress for themselves,” – Rahul Gandhi
