After BJP & Congress, Muslim League worker killed by CPI(M) goons during poll violence in Kerala: Riot like situation
A 22-year-old muslim student was hacked to death by governing party workers, 10 CPI(M) offices were burnt later in retaliation. On the same day, 2 Congress & 1 BJP worker were attacked as well.
A Muslim League worker was stabbed to death allegedly by a group of CPI(M) workers Kerala’s Kannur district even as post-poll violence rocked many areas of the state.
The deceased identified as 22-year-old Mansur, a native of Chokli here, had suffered critical injuries to his leg and was admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode, where he was declared dead by the doctors, police said.
The post-poll violence escalated on Wednesday (7 April) in Kannur district of Kerala, one day after Mansur was hacked to death in violence that broke out after the conclusion of polling at the Kuthuparamba region of the district.
At least 10 Left party offices were vandalised, and police resorted to baton charge as the protests spiralled out of control.
The Indian Union Muslim League party accused Left workers of throwing bombs at the two men, a charge the CPI(M) denies.
Kannur Superintendent of Police Ilango R reportedly told PTI that police resorted to baton charge and used grenades to dismiss the violent crowd in the Kolavellur police station limits.
“Around five-six persons, mostly IUML workers, were taken into custody after some miscreants have vandalised around five-party offices in Chockli and Kolavellur police station limits. A few more were also attacked in other places”, he said.
In Kayamkulam in Alapzuha district two Congress workers were stabbed on Tuesday night and the party had blamed the CPI(M) workers. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala had called on the injured workers. He asked police to take strict action against perpetrators.
In north Kerala’s Kasaragod a Yuva Morch leader was stabbed and he was rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru. During polling on Tuesday the state had witnessed sporadic incidents. Many cases of booth capturing and bogus voting were reported from north Kerala.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist) of unleashing violence in Kerala, and urged the party to “shed the path of violence”, reported TheHindu.
The Congress leader said the attack on the Muslim League worker revealed the “fear and frustration” of CPI(M) over losing power.
