Resignations continue to jolt the TMC in West Bengal from prominent faces to MLAs and district-level leaders ahead of the 2021 assembly elections as pver 9 more leaders submitted their resignations to the party leadership.
On Thursday, former West Bengal minister Suvendu Adhikari and MLA Jitendra Tiwari had quit ahead of the state Assembly elections next year. Five local TMC leaders in the Malda district also tendered their resignations on the same day.
After Adhikari, Pandabeswar MLA also quit the TMC, amid speculations that they may switch over to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Trinamool Congress MLA Silbhadra Dutta and the party’s minority cell general secretary Kabirul Islam on Friday resigned from their posts today.
Former minister Shyamaprasad Mukherjee too has announced that he would leave the party and join the BJP.
Many of the rebel leaders are expected to join the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He is scheduled to visit the state on Saturday.
“Some dacoits of Chambal and goons from outside have entered Bengal. At times they threaten police and sometimes they threaten TMC. Today, TMC is as deep-rooted as a Banyan tree. Two-three people who know they won’t get a ticket from the party are going away,” Mamata Banerjee said while addressing a rally as she critized people who left the party and BJP too.
Terming TMC as a deep-rooted banyan tree, Mamata Banerjee said that her party won’t be affected if two or three disgruntled members leave.
But the fact remains that such top leaders leaving TMC will not only harm the voter base of West Bengal but also create a deficiency of effective leaders in the party while in BJP, the amout continues to increase.
