Red Fort Attack: Police arrested 84 people after 38 FIRs so far, claims 1700 videos received as ‘proofs’

Delhi Police has registered a total of 38 FIRs in connection with the violence that erupted during the farmers’ Republic Day tractor rally. We have arrested 84 persons in connection with the probe, a senior official of the force said.

Multiple raids are being conducted by the Delhi Police at various places in Punjab and Haryana. On Saturday, the Delhi Police conducted raids at different places in Jalandhar in connection with the vandalism at the Red Fort on Republic Day.

Acting upon the information that two persons — Jugraj Singh and Navpreet Singh of Tarn Taran — had hoisted the Nishan Sahib flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort on January 26, the Delhi Police raided the Basti Bawa Khel area of Jalandhar.

Meanwhile, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police, which is investigating the case, reached Red Fort with officials of the forensics department, Hindustan Times’ sister publication Livehindustan reported. The team spent a few hours at the site, which had seen widespread violence, and even collected blood sampled and finger prints, Livehindustan further reported.

The Crime Branch has also received 1,700 mobile clips and CCTV footage from the public in connection with the January 26 violence during farmers’ tractor rally, according to news agency ANI.

In a press conference earlier this week, Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava had said that nearly 400 police personnel suffered injuries in violent clashes with farmers during the tractor rally violence. He went on to add that the Delhi Police is using face recognition software to identify miscreants who attacked the police and caused damage to public property.

He said that investigators are also analysing footage and photos taken from drone-mounted cameras and carrying out 3D mapping of the area vandalised at the Red Fort.
