Delhi Police has reported that a 24-year-old man from Delhi died from electrocution while using a treadmill at a gym in the Rohini neighbourhood. The deceased, Saksham Pruthi, a Rohini Sector 19 resident, frequently visited Gymplex Fitness Zone in Sector 15. According to sources, Saksham reportedly passed out while using the treadmill in the gym. He was later declared dead after being taken to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini Sector 6.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Guriqbal Singh Sidhu, the Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital informed the police of Saksham’s passing. The officer said that an autopsy determined the cause of death was electrocution. Police have detained the gym manager Anubhav Duggal, and a charge has been filed under IPC section 287 for careless behaviour with regard to machinery and culpable homicide that did not amount to murder.

A senior police officer said, “He was last seen using a treadmill at the gym and suffered an electric shock during the exercise. Based on the medico-legal case and post-mortem report, we have registered a case against the gym owners and the management.”

In another gym-related incident earlier this year, a 55-year-old man lost his life while exercising at a gym in Indore, MP. The deceased, Pradeep Raghuvanshi, was a well-known restauranteur who is said to have developed a heart condition 15 years ago and had a stent inserted in his arteries. He died of a heart attack after completing a workout session.
