Kashmir valley takes center stage as India’s premier wedding destination

Kashmir Valley in India has become a sought-after location for destination weddings, in addition to being a popular tourist destination. This trend has been facilitated by the improved security situation and the overall peaceful environment in the region. With its breathtaking natural beauty, the Kashmir Valley has seen a significant increase in the number of destination weddings in recent months. The Department of Tourism in Jammu and Kashmir has played a pivotal role in making this happen, offering assistance and opening up properties for wedding events.

Secretary Tourism, Abid Rashid Shah, highlighted the rising popularity of destination weddings in the Kashmir Valley, citing significant events that have taken place in picturesque locations like Srinagar, Pahalgam, and Gulmarg. He emphasized the potential for such weddings to boost the region’s tourism. The Department of Tourism has made efforts to support wedding planners and provide necessary facilities to make these events truly memorable.

Over the past two years, the government’s data indicates that around 150 destination weddings have been hosted in the Kashmir Valley:

Post-Covid, there has been a notable increase in the number of such weddings. Instead of choosing foreign destinations, many couples are exploring the beauty of Kashmir Valley for their special day. The assistance from J-K tourism has been instrumental in making these grand events possible, benefiting various stakeholders in the local tourism industry.
