IPS officer Ravi Sinha to succeed Samant Goel as new RAW chief

IPS officer Ravi Sinha has been appointed as the new chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). He will be succeeding incumbent Samant Goel, who will conclude his four-year tenure with the organization on June 30. Sinha will serve a two-year term in his new role.

Ravi Sinha, an IPS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, graduated in the 1988 batch. Over the past seven years, he has held the position of head of the operational division within RAW. His innovative use of advanced technology for intelligence gathering has garnered praise from both the agency and officials. Sinha is recognized for his expertise in matters concerning Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and Left Wing Extremism (LWE).

The Research and Analysis Wing holds the distinction of being India’s premier foreign intelligence agency. Its responsibilities encompass crucial functions, including the collection of foreign intelligence, undertaking counterterrorism efforts to prevent planned attacks against the nation, and actively supporting India’s foreign and strategic objectives.

The Chief of RAW holds the position of Secretary (Research) within the Cabinet Secretariat. This role operates under the direct authority of the Indian Prime Minister, without parliamentary oversight. The Director of RAW reports administratively to the Cabinet Secretary, who in turn reports to the Prime Minister.
